About Dedicated Gamers
Being gamers ourselves (prerequisite for becoming an employee), we understand clearly that the quality of the Internet connection your server has is just as important as the server itself. We have developed relationships with data centers who have proven their worth in Internet transit. We've selected only those that peer with multiple providers giving everyone the lowest ping times to your server.
Best of Class Dedicated Servers
The pure brute power and processing capability of your server plays a very important role in hosting games on your dedicated game server. This is why Dedicated Gamers offers only high-class server components. NO DESKTOP SERVERS! Additionally, we know that everyone's requirements are unique. For this reason, we strive to give you the customization possible. Consider some of the following when choosing server components:
Choose the right components for your Dedicated Game Server
Processors differ in CPU clock speed, hyper threading capabilities, and cache memory. Choose a processor that best meets the requirements of your game server platform. Some games perform better on systems with a higher clock speed, vs a newer processor with more cores, and hyper threading support. If you intend to run several game server instances on your dedicated game server, select at least a quad-core processor. Keep in mind that newer game server software wil take advantage of features offered in newer processors.
Memory (RAM) increases, overall system performance and improves dedicated game server application performance, allowing you to run more game server instances and other application simultaneously than ever before. All dedicated servers offered by Dedicated Gamers can support 8GB of RAM, the Core i7 and XEON models can support 12, 16, 24 or 32GB of RAM.
Hard disks are another important factor. Fast hard disks decrease map loading, and reporting times. Dedicated Gamers dedicated servers come standard with 7200 RPM, 32MB Cache Serial ATA hard disks. Choosing a faster hard drive improves application and server performance. Super High performance and reliability solid-state drive (SSD) options are also available for some servers.
Choose the right OS. If you're like us, you have a preference about what OS you want to run on your server. It largely depends on the game server you want to host. In many cases our Dedicated Gamers dedicated game servers are powerful enough to run VM Hypervisors enabling you to run multiples OSes on your server, allowing you to offer a number of different games to your customers, clans and friends. We offer installation and support services on a wide variety of network operating systems. If you don't see the operating system you need listed here, send us an email and we'll work with you to make it happen. Additionally, we have LAN Tronix Spider KVMs available which allow you to install your own operating system from your desk at the office or from home.
64bit or 32bit? It is a question we're asked frequently. The computational bandwidth of a 64bit system is much greater than that of a 32bit system. 64bit systems have become common for many years now and so we recommend 64bit for the best upgrade path in the future and highest processing speeds. Select 32bit if you are running older software which may be less stable or incompatible on newer 64bit systems. A good rule of thumb: If you have more than 4GB of RAM in your server, or if you're going to be running VM hypervisors suchs as VMware or XenServer, go with 64bit.
A control panel will help takes some of the headaches out of administering your dedicated game server. Adding a control panel is highly recommended if you're new to server administration. We're also available to help out with administration tasks such as kernel updates, os updates, firewall and other security related settings. We call it the managed gamer package. Try it out!
Choose the right datacenter for your Dedicated Game Server
The physical location of the data center is an extremely important choice when deciding where to host your dedicated server. Today we've launched the service in Europ. However, we'll soon be announcing partnerships with providers in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Yew York, and Japan! Choose the data-center closest to your gaming clients for it's low latency high network speeds. The Kansas City Data Center will be an excellent choice for it's central location and low latency to the East Coast, West Coast as well as Canada, and Mexico. The physical location is not the only thing you need from your datacenter though. You need premium, quality IP transit, and that's where we come in.
